Families United

www.familiesutd.com/about-families-utd/

Families Utd aims to be a conduit to many different support and advice mechanisms, all designed to put forward and support the whole issue of Youth Violence in this country from the perspective of people who have had to deal with it first hand – the victims’ families.

This places us in a unique position having experienced the Criminal Justice System at first hand, as well as the intense trauma surrounding the pointless death of a loved one. We want to use our experiences, opinions and drive to make a difference – to help support others that will inevitably go through this and to affect public opinion and government policy.

This site will provide a continual focal point for our thoughts, opinions and activities – and we urge you to bookmark this site, spread the word and get involved.

Not another drop

www.notanotherdrop.com
Not Another Drop (NAD) was established in February 2001, in response to a number of shootings in Harlesden. In the 18 months prior to the start of the NAD campaign, 12 people were seriously injured and 8 were killed at the hands of a gun. These incidents dubbed Harlesden the “gun capital of London”. As a result of this NAD was born out of a unique collaboration between Brent Council, the Metropolitan Police Service and the local community.

Over the years this partnership has grown to include more partners, however it has always been recognised that the cornerstone of NAD is the community and without the dedication and support of the people of Brent the past 7 years would not have been as successful.

Since 2001 NAD has worked across all sectors of our community to reduce the incidents of violent crime on the borough in particular gun, knife and gang related violence. NAD strives to make Brent a safer borough for all and we have seen a steady decrease in the number of gun and knife enabled crime on the borough. In the period 2007/8 when the rest of London saw an increase in the number of gun and knife related fatalities, Brent reported no fatalities.
The partnership approach adopted by NAD and the hard work of those involved has certainly contributed to this downward trend.

Rainer Crime Concern
www.rainercrimeconcern.org.uk
Rainer Crime Concern is working with 34,000 young people in over 150 communities across the UK.
Rainer works with young people who are: in or leaving care or custody, involved in or on the fringes of crime, out of work, struggling at school, homeless or facing young parenthood without the safety net of a supportive family.

It offers practical support services, delivered in a highly personal way which is flexible to individual needs and often intensive. This enables them to reach their full potential and achieves lasting change. Crime Concern works to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime in disadvantaged and deprived neighbourhoods. By harnessing energies at the grass roots, we’re able to see real change in communities.

Sometimes this is typified by a young person’s personal triumph and achievement, at other times the whole community has benefited from a prevention programme working in their midst.

Through Unity
www.throughunity.org.uk
Through Unity is a coalition. Its founders and members have nothing but praise for the work of other families and groups working towards the same aim. They do not want to 'take over', or absorb, any existing organisations. They will, however, work tirelessly to create as wide and strong a coalition is possible.

It will not be a quick or easy road to travel. The Taylor and Levy families understand this, as do the more recent recruits to Through UNITY. But they are united in a belief that education will raise young people out of the culture of guns, knives, gangs and violence.
