Choice FM GCSE Results Day

The Choice FM post G.C.S.E Guide

A Levels

It’s 24th of August - that nerving time of year again.  You’ve worked your socks off (well some of you!), scribbled away at your desks and now have your fingers and toes crossed as you open your envelope for the results of all your hard work and your ticket to your chosen university.

It’s either YAY or NAY.  If you’ve got what you wanted then congratulations – you’re on your way to a path of discovery and learning.

If you’re on your knees pleading, “Why? WHYY?!” to the ceiling above because your results weren’t good as you hoped for, then DON’T PANIC.

Choice has compiled a mini post-exam help guide that will hopefully get you on the right path…

• If you’ve missed your conditional offer by a grade or two or even more, still make sure you phone the university/college to see if they will accept you on the grades/points you do have as they may give leniency.

• So the uni/college you were hoping for didn’t accept you.  It doesn’t matter.  You can still study.  Go straight to clearing.  Clearing is available from July to September.  With this great system, you can look for any university or college placements available on there ‘database’.  Check out (http://tinyurl.com/37aogpd).  Great thing about it is that your grades can be flexible to get a place!

• You might be offered a ‘change course’.  This means that the institution cannot give you the original offer because you haven’t met the conditions BUT they are offering an alternative choice.  For more about this and what to do go here: (http://tiny.cc/noqo5).

• Maybe, you’ve had a good think about it and you’ve made a decision that university just isn’t for you.  That’s completely fine.  You can be just as successful as someone without a degree.  BUT you have to have a plan.  Figure out what you will fall back on, whether it be a job, apprenticeship, internship, gap year, voluntary work, a small course to study - anything - just so you don’t fall into the deep hole of NOTHING that many people go through because they haven’t got a ‘plan B’.  Why not see your local/college career advisor?  They can give some really useful advice.  Check out the links sections for a list on all the help out there!

• Just remember it’s not the end of the world.  You’re not alone in your situation.  There are other options and help out there so don’t worry.

Good luck with the next exciting step you take in this important stage in your life.  We hope our little guide has been useful.  If you need more help and advice, please check out our useful links below, they should give you the best help.
